About us

In the process of photosynthesis, plants convert sunlight to biochemical
energy that is used to fix carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We are
interested in various aspects of these reactions. We analyse the adaptation
of photosynthesis to salt stress and the regulation of photosynthetic genes
in C4 plants. The latter use a photosynthetic mechanism that is paricularly
effcient under stress conditions. Moreover, we investigate the control of
photorespiration, a major biochemical pathway in plants that recycles
products of a inefficient side reaction of photosynthesis. In the context of
our projects, we use diverse biophysical, biochemical and molecular methods.
The results form our work are used to develop and establish trangenic
approaches towards the enhancement of photosynthesis and yield in crop
plants.
