Welcome at the Research Initiative "Applied Plant Biotechnology" (ZAP)
The Research Initiative Applied Plant Biotechnology (ZAP) of Leibniz Universität Hannover integrates a range of research groups at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Biotechnological methods have become indispensable in nearly all areas of basic as well as for applied plant sciences. They represent an important pillar in the development of new plant varieties and will play an even more important role in the future due to foreseeable challenges, resulting e.g. from the increase in human population and the climate change.
The combination of research groups in the area of applied plant sciences at Leibniz Universität Hannover is unique in Germany. Most importantly, the whole range from molecular research to applied horticultural approaches is covered. The ZAP bundles this know-how by optimising synergy effects between areas primarily oriented towards basic or applied research. Apart from the coordination of research projects, the ZAP supports the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the field of academic teaching and it takes part in advanced training of teachers in the area of plant biotechnology as well as in the education of laboratory assistants.
